Owls in Tempera and Oil Crayon

Love Owls!!   These adorable owls were created in tempera and oil crayons.  I love the cut paper frames that add a folk art quality to them.  There is nothing like a frame to add importance to a painting!  We started with basic shapes to create the owl body and I allowed students free reign in painting there owls.  The second week was the "detail" week with the oil crayons and the third week was the "frame" week.

Bottle Cap Murals

This was a great project that was started in the beginning of the year with the collecting of bottle caps. Students brought bags in from home, collected them at lunch and had a wonderful time sorting them!  My fifth grade lunch time club (an unofficial club, just students who would rather create art at recess than to go outside) painted thick foam core boards with acrylic paint and then tacky glued the bottle caps on top of the dried acrylic paint.  These murals were perfect in our display case at school, and were a huge hit at our annual Art and Music Festival in Northport Park.  People loved the idea of recycling and were also amazed at the beautiful colors of the bottle caps!
